Would You Be Interested in Using a Blog to Communicate with Parents? Why or Why Not?

  1. I would love to use a blog to communicate with parents. In the past, I've worked hard to complete a traditional paper newsletter only to find them in the trash can. Or, worse, two months later in a bookbag or notebook (when it falls out while a student is searching for something else). Using a blog would allow me to make sure it always has the most up to date information, like if a test date changes after publishing a paper newsletter.

A blog would also allow me to get information updated immediately, instead of parents having to wait until a paper was brought home.

Another reason I'd love to use a blog to communicate with my students' parents is because parents could write a comment to ask questions or congratulate their child on a job well done!

  2. A blog is a great way to communicate with parents on what is happening in your classroom. Updates are instant and parents can view it at their convenience. It also eliminates the need for a printed newsletter to be sent home that may never be read. With a blog, it becomes the parents responsibility to stay informed and gives them a place to ask questions and make comments.

  3. A classroom blog is a great way to communicate. Parents can get up-to-date information about the classroom and can see digital projects. Parents wouldn't have to rely on the children to bring home a paper newsletter.
The teacher can highlight activities, share pictures and videos, and include links to useful websites and documents. Parents can also leave comments for students or the teacher.

  4. I think blogging is a great way to keep communication going between students, teachers, parents, and administrators. I think it would let the parents know what is going on in the classroom and it could help keep students on track. Parents and students could also leave comments if they had questions or concerns about something. I think this is a great way to keep parents connected to what is going on in the classroom.

  5. I would love to use a blog as a way to communicate with my parents. At my school, administration has decided to do monthly newsletters. I feel that I need to communicate with my parents more often than that. What a great way to share what we are doing in the classroom! I could also link to blogs that are beneficial to my parents.

  6. Blogging could be a great way to communicate with parents and keep them informed. I know just like many of our students, their parents have smart phones. I can see it being easy for the parents to access information about a class if they got e-mail notification when the blog was updated.

  7. I think a blog would be a great way to communicate with parents. It know it would give many parents an insight into class they probably would not get from their child. This would make announcements, reminders, and school events much easier that trying to make 50 personal contacts with individual parents.

  8. I would love to use blogging as a communication tool for students and parents. I am in constant contact with my parents by telephone or email but it would be really nice to be able to blog for them all to see. This will not only save me time but it will ensure that I tell all parents the same thing without missing any information.

  9. Using a blog to communicate to parents would be very positive, providing parents have access to the internet. Blogs could show what is happening in the classroom and notify parents of forthcoming events such as, tests, quizzes, trips, and fundraisers. School administrators could have access to a teacher’s blog which would keep communication lines open. Students would not be able to redirect this type of communication and thus parents would be more informed.

  10. I like the concept, I need to make it a part of my routine and help parents know to go their first for updates and information. Phone contact with each parent, although more personal, can take a lot of time and many times happens for negative reasons. I think it would be another way to keep in touch with more parents more efficiently.

  11. I am very interested in trying blogging with my faculty. Since we live all over the country and only come together 4 times a year blogging will be a good communication tool. It will allow us to easily share ideas and keep in touch.
